Sunday, February 21, at First Church

Sermon by Rev. Samuel Schaal, Transition Minister: “Taking a Breath” - Too often we run around helter-skelter, trying to do too much at once, and we forget to allow breathing room in our lives. At the beginning of this Lenten season, we consider how our lives might breathe a bit better. And how, paradoxically, doing so gives us greater power.

Sermon by Rev. Samuel Schaal, Transition Minister: “Standing on the Side of Love” - On this Valentine’s Day, we speak of love. Love is more than a pleasant feeling. Love is a verb and an ethic, a way of being in the world. How might each of us be an expression of love? How might our congregation be an institution of living love?

Sunday, December 20, at First Church

Sermon by Rev. Samuel Schaal, Transition Minister: “Waiting” - For children, waiting for Christmas morning and presents can seem like an eternity. For all of us, waiting for the good we expect throughout the year can test our endurance and faith. Within the opposites of life - light/dark, sickness/health, abundance/scarcity, intimacy/loneliness - there is the practice of waiting.

Cost is $25 per person. All proceeds go into the Fund. Sign up in Fellowship Hall during coffee hour.

problems.

To increase the participation of church members in the social action
programs of the church.

Sermon Discussions after the service

If the Sunday sermon inspires thoughts or questions you’d like to share with others after the service, you’ll have the perfect opportunity beginning Sunday, Oct. 26.

After each service, you can join others, including a Trustee, and, when possible, the minister who gave the sermon, in Fellowship Hall at the table marked “Sermon Discussion.”

This initiative was suggested in the small-group discussions held Oct. 12.
